Cepstral David is an English (US) male TTS voice that delivers spoken output from any text input. It was part of Cepstral’s personal voice line and was designed to be installed alongside a compatible TTS engine, such as Microsoft SAPI, Apple Speech Manager, or the Festival speech synthesis system on Linux. The voice is built on Cepstral’s own Theta synthesiser—a unit‑selection engine derived from Carnegie Mellon University’s Flite system but heavily optimised for low‑resource devices and real‑time performance. This heritage gave David a much more natural rhythm and pronunciation than the concatenated‑waveform voices that were common at the time.
